A solid gaming laptop that plays all my games at or near max. The screen is great.  The cons are that it gets really hot at load, and the fans are loud when running full tilt.  I got an active cooling stand and that helps a bit. The battery life is really short, which is to be expected, but it's REALLY short.  Overall, I like this laptop, and it serves my needs quite well in a portable format.

Solid mid-range gaming laptop

Mixed feelings about this one. For the first six months I had the laptop it functioned beautifully in running high intensity programs and games alike with only a handful of quirks. The speakers on the bottom of the laptop are an interesting choice and result in kind of mid audio quality. I also occasionally have issues where the laptop will lock up on the login page and I have to restart, or it will power cycle while it's closed and I lose everything I have opened. Minor but livable issues considering the price and functionality of the rest of the laptop.

That is, until now. I've had this beast for going on 7 months, and the right hinge just failed. It has been treated carefully its entire life and this issue arose when simply shutting the laptop after use one day. When I try to close it now the front frame pops loose and it and the screen start to warp, and now that side of the display is lacking in quality due to the issue. I can still (at this point) physically hold the frame closed on that hinge and get the laptop shut, but I shouldn't need to. A quick google shows that hinge issues are common on these laptops. When I contacted MSI about this issue they indicated that it was covered under the warranty, but since it is not within 30 days of purchase, I am responsible for shipping costs. This is very much not a light laptop and it will be very pricey to ship. I'm lucky to still be within the warranty period, but to have to pay to repair a known issue within the first year of the laptop's life is insane. And who knows if the other hinge will fail as well in the next few months, after the warranty has expired.

A fine laptop if you only need to use it for a few months, but definitely put your money toward something a little more durable if you want it to last you a little longer.
